The Hand of Fatima, or Khamsa, is a cultural symbol traditionally associated with protection throughout the Maghreb. Combined with Amazigh motifs carved into cedar, it evokes peace, strength and balance within the region’s decorative language. On this talisman, light wood naturally catches the light and highlights the metal silhouette. These references are presented for their heritage and symbolic meaning, without promising any actual effect.
Each piece is carved entirely by hand by Master Hajel in Marrakech’s medina. Using simple tools — chisel, mallet and patience — he shapes the cedar before attaching the chased metal Hand of Fatima. The pale wood contrasts with the bright metal surface and gives this model a lighter identity than the brown or henna-finished versions. Variations in the grain and traces of carving make every example individual.
Cedar is selected for its strength, fine grain and characteristic scent. Kept in a light tone, it reveals the carved relief without concealing the natural material. Daylight emphasizes small variations in the sculpture and the meeting of wood and metal. No two pieces are strictly identical: differences in tone, texture and finish reflect the handmade process and give the talisman its own character.
Displayed in a living room, entryway or bedroom, this talisman remains above all a wall decoration inspired by Amazigh culture. Its pale finish suits bright interiors and pairs easily with natural wood, understated materials or a handcrafted composition. Choosing a work by Master Hajel supports living Moroccan craftsmanship and adds an identifiable piece in which the Hand of Fatima, light cedar and carving convey heritage without attributing power to the object.
